About this projectEveryone has heard of the lost Russian Princess Anastasia. There have been plays, books, and movies about her mysterious fate. I was an avid fan of one of these movies (a cartoon) when I was young, and I have always been curious about what actually happened to her and her family. This project has helped me to find out the truth about something I've been wondering for a long time. These people deserve to have their real stories told as well as the more embellished versions. My goal was to explore the lives of the Romanovs and the events leading up to their execution to better understand why they were killed.

Who were the Romanovs? |
The Romanovs were the last royal family of Russia. Tsar Nicholas II was forced to abdicate during World War I, and less than two years later, his entire family was executed and the Bolsheviks took over the Russian government. Tsar Nicholas and Tsarina Alexandra had five children: Olga, Tatiana, Maria, Anastasia, and Alexei, the heir.

What happened to them? |
Many stories have been told about the real fate of the Grand Duchess Anastasia., involving Rasputin and soldiers who wanted the family killed. The story presented is quite confusing from a kid's perspective, and even more so when it has been researched and looked back on. Many sources suggest that Rasputin was indeed a close friend of the family, but was not trying to get them killed or having any sinister intentions toward them at all. The most cheerful part of the story, the hope that Anastasia survived, is false as well. So what is the truth of what happened to the Romanovs? It certainly isn't the kid-friendly or embellished versions that popularized the myth of her survival.
